the story behind the name...

So todays prompt is about names and the meaning or story behind them.... I had been wanting to create scrapbook pages on this topic for ages and thought id really like to hear everyone elses stories as well!
I dont have any kids so you guys get to hear about my pets!
Khodi: Thats her name layout above. The story is that when we got Khodi, the breeder had already named her "Thyme". Now on paper i like this name - but when you say it outloud it seemed like a weird name for a dog. She was only 6 weeks old so we thought it would be ok to change it. At that time, the big disney movie was "Brother Bear" and although we'd never seen the movie, there were posters everywhere for it. One of the posters had a cute little bear named "Koda". Jira didnt like the name but suggested "Cody". I agreed on the name but i didnt like the spelling so i just made up my own version - Khodi. This is also how she got the nickname Khodi Bear (or Bear for short). Her other nicknames of "Princess Khodi" and "Queen Bear" come from the way she thinks she owns everything and everyone!

Our other dog is a staffy called Jamison, though technically shes not our dog and technically thats not how you spell her name. The story with Jamison (or Jami for short) is that just before Jira and I bought our house, we lived with my brother Chris. The three of us were saving up together to buy a house but were renting for a while while we saved. To cut a long story short, the three of us living together didnt work very well so Chris moved back to our mums place. Only problem was that he'd bought a puppy and mum(already having two dogs of her own) refused to let him bring the puppy home. So until Chris moves out of mums place, his dog lives with us. (we love her to death tho so hes going to have a fight on his hands when he wants her back!) Anyway the story of her name is that my brother - like all 22 year old males, likes to have a drink (or two, or five or fifteen!) and that his favourite drink is Jamieson and coke. so thats where her name came from........only problem is that im not much of a drinker, so for the last two years, on all her vet records, in my scrapbooks and even on her id tag her name is spelt Jamison - i didnt realise there was an 'E' in it, until about a month ago.........oh well.

Oh just quickly - my name was going to be Sarah until the day i was born.....and then my mum said that there had once been a racehorse called LeiLani and she liked the shortened version of Lani - when they looked it up in a name book it meant "heavenly" so i think that was the clincher for them....tho for some reason my dad always used to joke that he wanted to call me "Puce"! what kind of a name is that! think he just wanted to annoy my mum.

Jira's name is actually Namatjira (which is why i sometimes refer to him as Nam) - silent T. Its aboriginal for "Man of Wisdom". Jira is half aboriginal, half aussie - his dad is aboriginal but it was his mum that wanted the aboriginal name.

Great stories, lots of interesting names. Jira is a great name, interesting where it came from! It was a good idea to suggest this topic, I'm going to make an effort to scrap about my kids names now, never thought of it before!

sorry forgot to say - did you know there was a June Challenge at DSP which is to create a blue page? You should put your Khodi page in, or maybe you did already...
